Having No Self-Confidence Sucks!

Having no self-confidence sucks! I know this because, as the saying goes, “been there, done that”. Fortunately for me, I met a wonderful man who helped me so much with improving my self-confidence and now we have been married for 24 years.

 

One of the most important aspects of your life is your self-confidence. Having self-confidence is the key to success in life. This is what separates the successful people from the unsuccessful people. Do you think Donald Trump would be where he is today if he lacked self-confidence? He even lost his fortune at one point and built it back up to where he is even more successful now than he was before he lost his fortune.

 

Stop and think about the successful people you know in your life. Have you ever seen them negotiate a business deal, strike up a conversation with a perfect stranger, give a speech in front of a large audience and thought to yourself, “Why can’t I be like that”? Well you can! You just have to believe that you can and work on developing confidence.

 

A lot of people think that hard work is the key to success. Well, that is true, to a point. What if you are a hard worker but you have always felt that you are looking at what you want to achieve from the outer part of the circle. What is holding you back from making it to the center of the circle? Are you self-doubting yourself? Are you fearful of taking a chance at what you want out of life, perhaps starting your own business, asking someone out on a date, or even fearful of rejection? This is all due to lack of self-confidence.

 

TIPS FOR BUILDING SELF-CONFIDENCE

 

You have to learn to program your subconscious with unshakable belief in yourself. You have to truly believe that nothing is impossible and that your dreams can come true.

 

Stop the negative self-talk. You probably don’t even realize you are doing this, but throughout the course of the day there are conversations going on inside your head that are negative, which will lead to self-doubt. That little tiny inner voice telling you that you aren’t pretty enough, or talented enough, or smart enough to accomplish what you want to accomplish. STOP! STOP! STOP! Turn that voice around to a positive.

 

The little things in life can help significantly on building your self-confidence. The way you dress, for example. Have you ever noticed that if you are wearing an outfit that you absolutely love, you feel great about yourself, your posture improves, and you are just overall happier. All of these great feelings simply because you are wearing a great looking outfit. Take care of your appearance everyday.

 

What are the people like that you generally hang around with? Are they downers and whiners, or upbeat and positive? If you are trying to build your self-confidence, should you be hanging around downers and whiners? Think about it.

 

Stop worrying about what other people are thinking! This can be a hard one to overcome but if you start thinking positive about yourself and truly believe in yourself, eventually you will stop caring about what other people are thinking and you will be able to live your life as you want to live your life.

 

Self-confidence comes from within. It is directly related to your emotions not your intelligence. You cannot change your self-confidence level if you are not in control of your emotions. Gaining Self Confidence

The first thing you need to do in order to Mgain self-confidenceis to believe in yourself. It sounds easy enough, doesn’t it? But many people don’t believe in themselves, and it takes a lot of positive reinforcement before they can feel truly good about who they are.

We speak every day with people whose self-confidence we respect, and even admire. From physicians to politicians to CEO’s of major corporations, these people practically ooze self-confidence.

You need self-confidence for nearly every part of your life, but you probably have struggled to find it. If you are not self-confident, there isn’t much chance of being successful, so something’s got to give.

You probably know what a lack of self-confidence looks like too, in people in addition to yourself. You have no doubt been hesitant to go full-bore on a project at work if the program manager seemed nervous and hesitant. Yet that may be the way you feel in front of others, too.

Put another speaker in front of the same group, a self-confident person, and you might be willing to follow him wherever he leads, even if the project is the same. Why is that? Because the person who was self-confident spoke clearly, explained himself succinctly, and answered questions with a quiet self-assurance that looks like he’s had it since birth.

People who are self-confident inspire others to have confidence in them, whether it be their peers, their friends or their boss. By gaining your confidence, and that of the others with you, he will find success because he is self-confident.

Hang on, there is good news here, too. You can learn to be self-confident, and build on that to find success. Others will begin to have more confidence in you as your own confidence grows, and you will know then that it was worth all the effort.

Your body language and behavior, what you say and how you say it, all go into showing whether you have confidence in yourself or not. If you learn to do what you know is right, in a given situation, even if it’s not the popular move to make, you are becoming self-aware and self-confident.

People who have low self-confidence often come across as very negative, and people who have confidence in themselves come across as positive, since they feel that what they’re doing is right, and they aren’t afraid to break from the crowd to do something correctly.

Before you can develop self-confidence, you need to discover self-esteem, and self-efficacy. You can begin to feel self-efficacy when you can see yourself mastering skills you need, and achieving some of your goals. Then will come the confidence that if you work hard you’ll succeed. This will lead you to face difficult times, and persist in the right course.

Self-esteem overlaps with self-efficacy, which is in general a sense that you will be able to cope somehow with everything that happens in your life. You should also feel as though you deserve to be happy, because you do.

You can’t learn self-confidence from an article like this, but you can learn to look at yourself in a positive manner, and to be unafraid when it comes to doing what you know is right, whether it’s the popular choice or not.

Whats the difference between Self Esteem and Self Confidence?

It seems the terms self-confidence and self esteem are used interchangeably.  And we all want more of both of them!

But what is the difference, and why does that matter?

Dictionary.com defines them as:

Self esteem:  A realistic respect for or favourable impression of oneself; self-respect.

Self confidence:   Realistic confidence in one’s own judgment, ability, power, etc.

Your self esteem is based around how much you like yourself, irrespective of your abilities, position or anything else.  Having a high self esteem means you are comfortable with yourself and happy with the person you are.  This doesn’t mean you will not strive for more, but will do so for your own satisfaction.  Those with high self esteem will never feel inadequate or inferior to others as they are content with the person they are, flaws and all.

Self confidence is based around your confidence in your abilities which is quite separate, although linked with, self esteem.  Self confidence can also vary in different situations.  You may feel completely confident in your ability to do your job well – high self confidence –  but have no confidence in your ability to ice skate – low self confidence.

Now, you may be thinking, but I have never been ice-skating, of course I would have low confidence in that area.  But not necessarily.  You can have confidence that you will do your best and learn quickly.  Going ice-skating  with this attitude makes it more likely that you will learn quickly, reinforcing your positive self confidence.  However if you have the attitude ‘I’ll be so useless at this, I’m bound to fall on my bottom and make a fool of myself’ then that is what is likely to happen, reinforcing your poor self confidence.

As long as you have high self esteem you will enjoy the ice skating whether you are good, bad or indifferent at it. (Or maybe decide you really don’t like it and will never go again!  But that’s fine too, you are happy enough with yourself to realise you will not enjoy everything)

So how do they affect each other?  Well generally, if self esteem is high so is self confidence and vice versa.  There are exceptions to this however as someone can portray great self confidence at something but not particularly like themselves.

If your self esteem is high, your confidence tends to be high as you accept your faults, strengths weaknesses and act accordingly.  You can be rubbish at painting but realise that you can’t be good at everything and maintain your high self esteem.

Developing high self confidence can raise our self esteem.  As you become more confident in your actions and achievements (no matter how large or small), you recognise you are a competent, able person and therefore self esteem is raised.

Question by Winston Smith: How do you distinguish between “faith in god” and “self-confidence”?
It seems to me that in order to trust god, one must first believe that one has a fairly accurate read on reality. How can you get around the deep, deep assumption that you understand reality well enough to know that your faith is sound? How can you say that your ultimate faith is in god, rather than in your own ability to discern the truth?

Faith is faith. You simply believe. That’s it.

I sadly have low self confidence. I always think I’m not doing anything right, or people will hate me before they get to know me.
